Import Tool

Bring large amounts of data into JACK in one go, from a file or by entering it directly.

Overview

The Import Tool lets you bring large amounts of data into JACK in one go. You can upload a CSV or Excel file, or paste or type your data directly. Then you fix any highlighted issues on screen before you finalise the import, so your data lands in the right place the first time.

This article walks through the tool using Costings to an Estimate as an example.

Accessing the Import Tool

To open the tool, go to Settings > Import Tool.

The import screen lists all available import types in JACK.

Selecting An Import Type and Uploading Data

For this example, Select Costings to an Estimate, and click on

This will display a screen where you can drop the costing CSV you want to add to the estimate. Then click

You map all your fields on a single screen, so there's no need to edit your file and re-upload it.

Click the arrow in a data field to map it to an existing JACK field, or add a new field to match your data. You can then apply that mapping to multiple rows at once.

Fields that still need mapping are highlighted in red. The highlight clears as you map each one, so you can see your progress at a glance.

If your file contains columns that JACK doesn't recognise, Map Columns appears in the top-right corner. Click it to match those columns to the correct JACK columns.

Any columns you leave unmapped are skipped and aren't imported. To include them, select a matching column from the drop-down.

When all your fields are mapped, click Import All.

An "Import All Rows" confirmation appears, letting you know that the import can't be undone. Click Import to continue.

Your data is checked during mapping, so there's no separate review step. An Import Complete message appears when the import finishes.

Click Done. Your costings are now in the estimate.

To check the result, go to Estimates and open the estimate you imported into.
