A Builder’s Guide to Importing Estimates

A Step-by-Step Guide to Seamlessly Import Your Estimate into JACK

Updated today

Overview - Before Importing Your Estimate

  1. Make sure the Lead you’re importing into already has an empty Estimate.

  2. If no Estimate exists, create one first.

  3. Once the Estimate is ready, import your estimate file into JACK.

⚠️You must have an existing estimate before importing, or the file cannot be uploaded.

Step 1: Create or Select a Lead

  1. Go to Sales > + Lead to create a new lead, or select an existing lead.

  2. Use this Lead to set up or test your Estimate Template without affecting live data.

⚠️Dummy leads are ideal for testing workflows safely.

Step 2: Create an Estimate

  1. Navigate to the Estimates tab and click + Estimate.

  2. Enter a Name for your estimate, for example, “Test Import”.

  3. Select the Project Type.

  4. Click Create Estimate.

Step 3: Format Your Data File

  1. Go to Settings > Import Tool > CSV Template

  2. Scroll down and download the template 'Costings to an Estimate'.

  3. Transfer your data into the downloaded file, following the template layout below.

💡Keep your column headings consistent with the template headings. This ensures JACK recognises your data.

Step 4: Setting Up Cost Categories and Units of Measurement

  1. Navigate to Settings > Data Setup > Cost Categories.

  2. Check existing categories or add new ones by entering the names.

    • Use ALL CAPITALS or Initial Capitals.

    • Once created, categories cannot be changed.

  3. Make sure the entries in Columns B and G of your CSV match the units listed here.

Step 5: Importing Costings

  1. Navigate to Settings > Import Tool > CSV Template and click Next Step.

  2. Use the drop-down and select Costings to an Estimate and select the relevant Lead and Estimate.

  3. Click Next Step again and upload your CSV file.

  4. JACK will automatically read the file and highlight any errors, showing the exact column and row that need correction.

⚠️ Make sure your CSV matches the required format to avoid import errors.

Step 6: Creating an Estimate Template

  1. Go to the Lead > Estimates and click the three dots next to your estimate.

  2. Select Create Template.

  3. Rename or adjust the data as needed.

  4. Change the status from Draft to Published to finalise.

💡Once published, the template is ready to reuse for future estimates.
