Overview

Cost Groups in JACK App organise your project costs into clear, high-level sections.
They act as the highest layer of your cost structure grouping related Cost Categories so your estimates, job budget & invoices, are easier to navigate and manage.

Think of Cost Groups as the folders, and Cost Categories as the files inside them.

What Are Cost Groups

A Cost Group helps you summarise your project expenses and see where money is being spent at a glance, without needing to review every line item.

Example:

Cost Group

Cost Categories

Site Costs

Excavation, Slab, Retaining Walls

Structure

Wall Frame, Roof Frame, Trusses

Finishes

Flooring, Painting, Tiling

Services

Electrical, Plumbing, Air Conditioning

πŸ’‘ A Cost Category can belong to more than one Cost Group, giving you flexibility across different job types.

How It Works

Cost Groups power several key parts of JACK and keep your project structure consistent.

  • Estimating– Costs automatically roll up into their Cost Group, so you can view totals for each section of work.

  • Documents & Proposals – You can choose to show totals by Cost Group only, to simplify documents.

  • Invoicing– When you create Invoices, JACK keeps them organised under the right group.

Where to Add or Manage Cost Groups

You can create or edit Cost Groups in two places:

  1. Job Budget View

Click + Costing Group at the bottom of your budget to add a new section.

  2. Settings β†’ Data Setup β†’ Cost Groups

Manage, rename, or reorder existing Cost Groups.

Organise and Track Your Costs

You can now sort and move your Cost Categories with ease!

Simply drag and drop them into different Cost Groups to keep your budget organised and aligned with your project structure.

You can also mark individual Cost Categories within a Cost Group as Complete or Incomplete to track your progress through the estimate.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Use Cost Groups to group similar sections of work β€” this makes your estimates, reports, and proposals much easier to follow.
