Overview
With write/update access, Claude does more than answer questions about things in your JACK account. Ask it to create or update records in JACK in plain language, and it makes the change for you, so post-site-visit or post-phone-call admin work takes minutes instead of a sit-down at the desk.
This article covers modifying your existing access to a Claude connection you have already set up. If you have not connected Claude yet, start with Connecting to an AI Assistant for the first time - Claude. If you only want Claude to look up and summarise information, keep your access level on Read-only.
ℹ️ Claude is always bound by your own role in JACK. It can only access and change what you can access and change when you log in yourself.
Access Levels
Navigate to Settings > AI MCP Integration in JACK to choose how much your assistant can do in your account.
Read-only: looks up and summarises information. Cannot create or edit records.
Read and write: also creates new records. Cannot edit existing records.
Read, write, and update: also edits existing records.
After selecting your access level, accept the terms in the Important section, then click Save to update your JACK settings.
⚠️ Changes your AI assistant makes are real changes to your JACK account, made under your login. Verify what it has done the same way you would check work done by a new team member.
Claude Tool List Refresh
Open Claude and navigate to Settings > Connectors, then select your JACK connector. Click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner next to Disconnect and select Refresh tools list.
Your tools list now shows the updated tools it has access to based on the permission level you selected in the step above. Review each tool and set how Claude asks for approval to suit how you use it. When you have finished, click X to close the window.
⚠️ Setting a write or update tool to Always allow means Claude makes that change without asking you first. Keep approval on for these tools so you see each change before it happens.
Testing the Connector
Return to a Claude chat and ask it to add a comment to a variation or a note to a job or lead (assuming you have write permission enabled). This is a quick way to confirm write access is working, and you can delete the test comment/note in JACK afterwards by navigating to it yourself (the AI assistant cannot delete things).
⚠️ While the AI assistant cannot delete records, if provided update access, it can replace records, which will effectively wipe the old record.
