Delete vs Archive: Which One Should You Use?

A quick guide to choosing between deleting and archiving in JACK, so you don't lose something you might need again.

Before you delete anything in JACK, pause and ask why you're doing it. In most cases, archiving gets you the same result without the risk. This article explains the difference between the two and where to find the option.

Archiving

Archiving removes an item from your active views without deleting it. If you need it later, you can recover it.

You will then be prompted to confirm that you want to archive it.

💡 Tip: If you're not sure whether you'll need something again, archive it. You can always delete it later, but you can't undo a deletion.

Deleting

Deleting removes an item completely, and it can't be recovered.

You will then be prompted to confirm that you want to delete.

⚠️ Deletion is permanent. Once something is deleted, you can't recover it.

Finding The Option

Wherever you see the option to delete something in JACK, look for the orange exclamation mark tooltip icon () beside it. Hovering over this icon gives you more information before you decide.

This will display a tip: "Are you sure you want to delete the job? Archiving is more appropriate. You will not be able to recover this Job if you delete it"
